Week 47
This week was honestly so good and went by so so fast! We saw lots of miracles, God really works in the cracks.
We have a friend, his name is Crusito. He works as a security guard for an apartment building and we are teaching him. He's so cool. BUT the coolest thing about him is he gives us references of everyone in the apartment building where he works. He introduced us to our new best friend Anet. And a few weeks ago he intoduced us to his friend Samantha.
Anet
She's 19 and she's the coolest person ever and we had the most spiritual lesson with her on Tuesday. Like the classic Dominicans we were sitting on the side of the road in plastic chairs talking about Jesus. We shared about the story in Mark 5, when Jesus healed the women who had an uncurable blood condition but she had faith and reached out to Christ and he healed her. Guys... she literally started crying and then our security guard friend Crusito started crying, and then we all just got teary eyed. It was so beautiful and she told us that was exactly what she needed to hear. She asked us how she can come back to God when she has drifted so far from Him. She has a desire to follow God and change her life for Him. Everyone please pray for her.
Samantha
Our security guard friend also introduced us to Samantha. He's from INDIA and he's BUDDHIST!! He's here for a work trip for about 6 months. We are the first missionaries he has ever seen or even heard of. He speaks some crazy native language that they speak in India and English, so we taught him in English, cause obviously we don't know his crazy Indian language. Since Buddhists don't believe in God, they belive in Buddah, we had to take a different approach. We got to know him and we explained the plan of salvation a little. Before the lesson he asked us "so why is everyone raging about this Jesus guy?" because in the DR, everyone, literally everyone is Catholic or Christian so we got right into explaining who Christ is and the plan our loving Heavenly Father created for us and the spirit filled our mouths, I'm not even sure what we said but he wants to learn more about this "Jesus Christ guy". It was the coolest lesson I've had my entire mission.
One of our friends Gina, owns a dress shop. We actually found her because one day we passed by her store and we saw the cutest dress and entered and of course bought it. Well, when we teach her we teach her in her store, and to say the least, her store is eating my money hahaha.
We live in a house with two mexicans and it was Día de México, so we celebrated hard and ate some tacos and horchata.
It rained so much this week. It was the most rain I've ever seen in my life. The roads turned into river roads. And we forgot our umbrella, so we were just walking through rivers, absolutely drenched and people were yelling at us not to get wet, it was a fun time.
On Tuesday we got some horrible news and we need all your prayers. On Tuesday night we got home and we had a text from the President of the mission. We are serving in his home ward and he knows this area and ward is a little difficult. There have been a few problems the last couple of months with the members and how they treat the missionaries. So President called us and basically told us if the members aren't willing to work with us and and help us baptize people he's going to take us out of this area and put elders in.
Everyone please pray that this won't happen. I have fallen in love with this area and these people, I want to keep helping them progress towards baptism, just everyone keep in your prayers at night that things will get better with the members :) thank you!!!
Spiritual thought
This week I was studying the atonement of Jesus Christ. I was reading in Jacob 5 and I came across verse 51 and it says
"And the Lord said: Yea, I will spare it a little longer, for it grieveth me that I should lose the trees of my vineyard."
When I read this it made me think about Christ's atoning sacrafice. It says in Luke 23:44 "And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." and in Doctrine and Covenants 19:18 it says "Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink"
When He suffered for us, He suffered for everything. Our pains, our struggles, our weakness, our trials, our sins. He overcame death for us. And what I love in Jacob 5 is it says "i will spare it a little longer" he spared this agonizaing pain a little longer so that he wouldn't lose us, the trees of his vineyard.
I'm so grateful for Christ and everything that He went through for us. I know He lives and that we will live again.
I absolutely love you all, have a great week and send an email my way, I would love to hear from you! And remember God loves you and to put Him first!
